So the idea of whites playing a central role in an abolitionist story didn't seem as odd as it does today. Versions filmed only 10 or so years before this cast white actors as Tom. If you don't think much of black people and then you set out to tell a story, that'll come through quite nicely, thank you.<br /><br />It doesn't matter if that story is illustrated, animated, live action with people of one race or with people of another race. It could've been done with shadow puppets, for all I'd care: it would convey pretty much the same things.
